Team building culture: how to achieve it while working remotely

We are reaching the end of the year and it is inevitable not to make some reflections about the things we have learned along the way. 2020 surprised us with a global pandemic and the need to rearrange work conditions. 2021 saw us more fit to deal with the “new normal” challenges, ready to make the most out of this new scenario. Here we would like to take a look at our most successful moves to help our staff feel like a team during these challenging times.

 

 

- International online events

For IT companies with staff located all over Latin America, hosting an event where everyone could take part is not so easy. The pandemic, however, made us look for new ways of connecting and creating a sense of community. One of our big moments of 2021 was the Software Developers’ day, when we organized an amazing online event, where we shared a special moment together and enjoyed a yummy snack. A new reality forced us to be creative, and we could not be happier with the results.

 

- Encourage constant communication among team members

Use any tool that proves useful to your company (it could be Slack, Meet, Zoom, Teams, etc) to keep everyone connected. You can encourage staff to upload their daily progress on an online tool, so you can make sure you are on schedule, but, at the same time, create spaces where all areas can communicate and see what is happening at the moment. We have also been encouraging meetings across sectors, including all areas of staff and management, between managers and leaders, and more. We believe that open and constant communication is the best way of avoiding setbacks and also making everyone feel listened to.

In addition, we encourage Virtualminders to join our tech community and mutual interests channels so they can stay in touch with colleagues with the same hobbies or passions. From channels for those who are passionate about a specific technology to more generic ones, such as reading, binge-watching, or exercising!

 

- Show appreciation to your staff

Everybody likes to feel valued. If you cannot drop by their desk to tell them how thankful you are for their hard work, why not show it in other ways? 

It worked out to be a great idea for Virtualmind to host Q Meetings where besides sharing the last Q’s milestones, news, and updates, we highlight the VM Featured of the Q as well! This is a very special moment in the meeting since it’s the time where we recognize the Virtualminders who have outstood in their projects.

As social media and internal communication are crucial in our identity, we decided it was high time we began to honor Virtualmind’s Influencers too! For this reason, we created a special section for our end-of-the-year event called VM Influencers aimed to show appreciation to those collaborators who are constantly sharing, liking, and commenting on our posts! 

We are always figuring out ways in which we can make a difference in our Virtualminders’ daily life, testing new strategies and keeping our ears open to see what our people need.

 

The last two years have brought about several challenges. In fact, we have experienced unbelievable growth… In 2021 we have even doubled our size! We are well aware of the fact that with such a milestone comes a huge responsibility. We are proud to have ended up with greater insight on team building and how to manage a company whose staff is distributed all over Latin America. We do not know what the future holds, but we know for sure that we will be ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead.
